The Madison Experimental Mathematics Lab was founded in 2021, and aims to enhance and support undergraduate research within the Department of Mathematics and the University of Wisconsin.

Topic: Causality based data-driven model identification and dynamical interpolation

This project developed a sparse model identification method based on causation entropy inference, incorporating physics via causality into model identification. Applications include El Nino-Southern Oscillation and Madden-Julian Oscillation data sets.

Topic: Understanding the Relationship Between the Mean States and RO Parameters for ENSO

This project aims to understand the relationship between the mean state of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the fundamental parameters of the Recharge Oscillator (RO) model. An auto-learning framework is proposed to generate explicit formulas, offering a quantitative measure of this relationship.
